Gluten-free bread made entirely from rice in quiet Buam-dong

Self-paid. The blogger paid for this visit.

A small Buam-dong bakery that bakes everything with 100% rice instead of wheat flour, so the whole shop is gluten-free and there are vegan options too. The 72-hour rice loaf is the bestseller, and a rice bread sandwich with a hojicha latte makes an easy light lunch.

밀가루 없이 쌀 100%로 만든다고 해서 맛이 심심하지 않을까 생각했는데, 오히려 깔끔하고 부담 없는 맛이라 계속 손이 가더라고요.

I figured bread with no wheat would taste bland. It turned out clean and light, and I kept reaching for more.

Is it for you?

Go forThe 72-hour rice loaf is dense when you slice it but goes soft in your mouth, with a clean rice flavor and a little sweetness after. The basil egg sandwich comes on toasted rice bread that is crisp outside and chewy inside. If you eat gluten-free or vegan, this is one of the few bakeries where you can pick almost anything.
Skip ifYou want rich, sweet pastries or a big cafe to sit in for a while. Flavors are plain and light, the shop is small with only a few tables, and it is closed Sunday and Monday.

Good to know

  • Go early. The bread on the shelves changes through the day, and loaves are still cooling around opening time.
  • The nurungji (toasted rice) baguette is vegan and dairy-free.
  • Rice bread has few additives, so eat it the same day or the next.
  • Toast the loaf once at home and it turns crisp outside and moist inside.
  • Last order is 18:40.
  • It is a bus ride from the subway. Buam-dong is a nice neighborhood to walk around after.
