Spicy pork trotters and gamjatang at a Michelin-listed old-school spot by Gyeongbokgung

Self-paid. The blogger paid for this visit.

An old family restaurant in a back alley near Gyeongbokgung Station, listed in the Michelin Guide Seoul 2026. The menu is just two dishes, spicy braised pork trotters and pork bone soup, both made for sharing over soju.

분명 고기가 들어간 탕인데... 매운탕 국물 맛이 나더라고요??!

It's definitely a meat soup... so why does the broth taste like spicy fish stew??!

Is it for you?

Go forThe jokbal comes already coated in a spicy sauce. It is so tender it falls apart when you pick it up with tongs, and the skin is soft and full of collagen. A little salted shrimp on top makes it even better. The gamjatang arrives under a mountain of bean sprouts and chives, with a clean but deep broth and big bones that the meat slides right off. It feels like eating at a grandmother's house in the countryside.
Skip ifYou do not like spicy food. Both dishes are seasoned and fairly hot. Also not for solo diners: portions are for 2 or more, and tables are few.
